Sohrae
Sohrae is the most important festival of the Santali people. It is a harvest festival celebrated after the paddy harvest in the month of Aghan/Poush (October–November). The festival involves worship of ancestral spirits, cattle veneration, community feasting, and traditional singing and dancing. Sohrae typically spans five days and is deeply tied to agricultural cycles.
Cultural Significance & Traditions
Sohrae reflects the agricultural heritage of the Santali community. Cattle are decorated and honored during the festival. Traditional Santali music, including the baanam (fiddle) and madal (drum), is central to the celebrations.
